Love an Unloved Stamp Challenge
Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Good Morning! It's supposed to be COLD here today, but I do have to get out this morning, definitely NOT looking forward to that. This is not one of my unloved stamp posts, this card is one that I did recently for another challenge. I really love the challenges because sometimes they get me to try things I wouldn't ordinarily try. Also, by seeing all the things that other people come up with, I gain tons of new ideas and it just helps tremendously with my own creativity. So, I really hope that you will consider participating in the challenges here on Lagniappe. You don't have to do them all, just when you can, jump on in!!
This card uses a Stampendous clear stamp set that I have misplaced recently. In all of my scrapbook room remodel etc (which by the way is going VERY slowly because I get so overwhelmed - I know I should be just ecstatic about it and I am, it's just so overwhelming), I have managed to misplace the whole set.......I will find it though. Back to the card, I colored the flowers with, of course, prismacolor pencils and mineral spirits and cut them out. I cut about 1/2" off the front of the card and put a strip of patterned paper on the inside of the card where it would show when the card is closed. Then I attached the 1/2 flowers with pop dots. The front of the card has Basic Grey paper as the background, the 'hello you' stamp is from Hero Arts. I punched circles from the same pp I used on the bottom under the 1/2 flowers with my Marvy scallop punch and pierced the scallops and then drew stitching lines with my Sakura glitter pen. I pop dotted the flower onto one of the circles. The ribbon I think is from Oriental Trading Co. I don't order much from them at all, but I just can't resist ribbon! Oh, I did put bling on each of the flowers, one has gems, the big one has stickles in the center and the others have glitter pen accents.

Blog Candy with some help from You :)
Okay, here are my ideas:
1 - Unloved stamp day - this doesn't mean you use a stamp you don't really like, it means you use a stamp that you love, but that you haven't ever used or you haven't used in a while.
2 - Use this image (or one similar) - With this one I will post a stamp and you will be challenged to use this stamp if you have it or one similar to it. If it's a background stamp I post, use a background stamp, if it's a flower, use a similar flower.
3 - Patterned Paper Combo Challenge - With this one I would specify 2 or 3 patterns of paper and you would be challenged to use all of them on a card or page or altered item. For instance I might choose dots & paisleys, or plaid & stripes.
4 - Use these products Challenge - With this one I would specify 2 or 3 specific products for you to use on a card, page or altered item. For instance it might be chipboard, and buttons, or ribbon and stitching.
5 - We could also go for a specific type of card day, like Thank You Thursday or Birthday Tuesday and maybe we could also specify the kind of thank you or birthday card, for instance a thank you card for men or a birthday card for a child.
With all of these challenges, after you've created your item, I would love for you to put a link in my comments so we can see your creations as well.
Okay, today is Thursday so I'll will take comments until Sunday night midnight and then draw a winner of the blog candy on Monday morning. If you have any additional ideas I would love to hear them too! Thanks for your help with this.

Using What I am "Saving"
Good Morning! Looks like there is more snow in our forecast for today, not alot, but still......
Today's card is about using what I am "saving". I know I have written about this before, but I think it deserves another post. My personality is such that with things I love, I tend not to use them, saving them for the 'perfect' card, scrapbook page, or project. What happens though is that I don't use them and then something else comes along and I purchase it too and then that gets saved and on and on and on, you get the picture. My daughter is helping me with that because she picks out the things she loves and makes something with them. This chipboard "M" is my example for today. You know only 1 "M" came in the package and if I use it I won't have another one to use if by chance the perfect time for it comes along. But I used it and it's a happy "M" now. I'm hoping that when my room finally gets finished, I will use more of my "good stuff" and make it happy too! All this beautiful stuff doesn't do anyone any good just sitting in my scrapbooking room!!!!! Besides that, the more stuff I use and give away, the more room I'll have for new stuff :)

Making the Most of Scraps
This card is made with scraps. I save most of my scrap paper and right now they are all sorted by color, but cardstock and patterned paper all goes together. In my new room, I think I'm going to separate cardstock from patterened paper and still sort by color. It works well for me. The giraffe stamps are from Autumn Leaves, they're called "Mindy's Zoo" and the welcome to the world stamp in from a Fiskars baby set. The giraffes are colored in prismacolor pencils and mineral spirits and the welcome to the world is stamped in Sepia Versafine ink.

a Fairytale
This card is one that can be used for more than one occasion. It can be a Valentine's card, a wedding card, and anniversary card, a "just because I love you" card. I like cards like this and when I make them, alot of times I won't stamp anything on the inside until I decide what occasion it's going to be for and then I can just add, "Happy Valentine's Day" or "Congratulations" or whatever is appropriate for the occasion. It's fun to have some of these around!
Well, the kitchen is finished being painted and we did start on my scrapbooking room, but we have a LONG way to go. I really am excited about it, but also overwhelmed!!! I keep telling myself that it's going to look so good when we're finished and even more, I'm going to be inspired when I go in there and I'll be very productive. Sara will also have room in there to work with or without me and she's excited about that! So, I will work as hard as I have to, to make this reality! Please wish me luck :)

So take this day and make the most of it!! I haven't forgotten about getting your opinions on some new things to do on my blog, just getting my ideas together, thanks for your patience with me. Have a great day!!!

Baby, It's Cold Outside...............

Just Because.....
It's definitely a "just because" day! It's really cold outside and the wind is blowing and the snow is still kind of swirling down. Our temp is 10 with a high this afternoon of 14. Tomorrow our high is supposed to be 4. And these are without the wind chill! BBBBrrrrrrrr!! I should be making winter cards, but I made this one "just because" I wanted to and for the card-a-day challenge at www.cardstudiodesigns.com.
I used old SEI papers, an AMuseArt stamp "just because" and two new stampendous clear stamps. the background on the top of the card is a clear stamp that's about 3/4" X 1" and I just stamped repeatedly to make the background. the daisy in the vase I stamped on watercolor paper and watercolored. It was a fun, simple card.
Part of our kitchen is painted so we have about 1/2 left and then we'll be starting on my scrapbooking room, yeah!!!!

Love ya......
This card is based on a sketch by Janelle Richmond. If you go over to http://www.cardstudiodesigns.com/ there is a place where she posts sketches and you can link your creation to it. All of the die cut hearts on the green circle are from a cuttlebug die. Michaels had this particular die on clearance and since it was Valentine card making time I decided to purchase it! The love ya.... stamp is from Stampendous, a clear set made exclusively for Archivers. The ribbon is from American Crafts and the buckle is a punch that I love from EKSuccess.

You Make Me Smile
I love that the colors of this card are happy so they just go along with the birds and the sentiment! The birds are the ones by CC Designs that you can find at http://www.allthescraps.com/ and the sentiment is from Hero Arts, one of the clear sets.
I have a bunch of ideas going through my head of things to do on my blog. On Amy Westerman's blog she does Scrap Stash Saturday and Taylored Expressions has Cupcake Fridays. I've got a couple of things roaming around in my head that I want to know your opinion on so stay tuned for your chance at helping me with some decisions and winning some blog candy :)
I love quotes and am a collector of them, so I am going to start ending my posts with a quote that fits the post for that day.
Today's quote is from an anonymous writer.

Things that Inspire Me
Good morning! Still no sunshine here today, we're supposed to get some, but I am not seeing signs of it yet and I really want to see it!!!
Today's card is all about inspiration. I was in Target one day and was browsing the stationary isle and saw these cool little fabric labels. They had Happy Birthday ones and Thank You ones so I bought a package of each. Well, hopefully I'm not the only one who doesn't actually USE the products I purchase right when I buy them :o) When I finally got around to using them, I couldn't find them, but I loved them so much that I went to Target the next day and bought some more. Yes, I know that's BAD, but I'm hoping that as we clean out my scrapbooking room I'll come across them and then I'll have some extra supplies that I didn't think I had :o)
Anyway......I was doing a challenge to make a birthday card and this label became my inspiration, so I dug into my scrap papers and found these brown and pink papers and I dug into my Maya Road flower chipboard shapes and painted them to make this flower. The blue center is a brad. Then I just used ribbon to make the stem and leaf.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, just be careful walking down the isles at Target, there is ALOT of inspiration there!! :o) Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Something Different
We are still gloomy here today and are supposed to get a little bit of snow so I have no plans of getting out unless I have to. We are still working on our house and today we are supposed to start painting the kitchen. After that we are moving to the scrapbooking room. HUGE undertaking, but I'm so excited about it. Right now it's so disorganized that I don't get inspired when I go in there. Sara loves to scrapbook and make cards too and sometimes she decides not to, just because there is too much stuff in the way. I have some organizational things that work well for me and some new ones that I want to try. But first, the kitchen!
I made this card as part of the Card-a-Day game that's going on over at www.cardstudiodesigns.com. If you have had a chance to go check it out, please do. Lots of fun and lots of inspiration! You don't have to start from the beginning, just jump in. I took one day and made about 4 or 5 cards to catch up, but you don't have to do that. Just check it out, it's fun!
I love this stamp!!! It's made by Rubber Stampede and I bought it at Joanne's one day. It's a cherry blossom and I just love the softness of it. On my card, I colored it with copics and then used green twinklette pen to color the insides of the flowers so it has some bling to it. I'm really not that much of a glitter girl, but I sure do love all these products that let you put just a little bit of bling onto things. The papers are some that I pulled out of my scraps and the sentiment is from PaperTrey Inc. The brads are Making Memories, as is the ribbon.
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!!!

Bucket of Hugs & Kisses
Good Morning! This morning I'm still enjoying the National Championship win of my LSU Tigers, but the reality of laundry is sinking in too!
Today I am sharing a little tin pail that is available at www.allthatscraps.com along with the piggie stamp and the LuLu stamp that is on the other side (you just can't see it :) The pail isn't huge, but it's perfect for a teacher gift or something like that. It holds about 1/2 package of Hershey's Hugs and Kisses, did you know that you can buy them in a package together now, it was a cool find for me. My kids couldn't wait until I finished the pail so they would know how many candies I would have left for them to eat!
I used a distressing block to take the gloss off the pail first, oh, the pail comes painted white so you wouldn't even have to cover it if you didn't want to. Then I cut a template because my paper had to have curves to fit around the pail correctly. I mod-podged the paper onto the pail (I love mod-podge) and let that dry completely. The "hugs & kisses" stamp is from a Hero Arts set exclusive to Archiver's so if you're ever in Archiver's be sure to check out the things that they are getting exclusively. I colored my images with.........you're right prismacolor pencils and mineral spirits and then cut them out and mounted them on Marvy Scallop circle punches. Then just attached everything to the pail. I used lots of fun ribbon to decorate the pail handle. Last step, fill with candy.
It's pretty gloomy here today, but it's not supposed to snow until tomorrow so maybe I'll get some stamping done. We did paint our stairwell yesterday, today is supposed to be the 2nd coat. Also, I want to post about a fun site that I have been playing on, right now they are doing a "Card-a-Day" theme and it's fun!! The site is call www.cardstudiodesigns.com and if you go to the message board you can find it, if not let me know and I'll give better directions :o) I will be posting some of the cards I have made for that too....eventually. Have a great day!!

Tweethearts
Okay, there aren't too many differences between these two cards I'm sharing, but the main difference is the way I colored the birds. The top one used Copic markers, yes, I'm learning, and the bottom one I used my good ole prismacolor pencils and mineral spirits. I also covered the birds with Diamond Glaze to make them glossy. If you notice on the top one, I have also added primas, that was NOT my original idea, but when I cut it with my nestibilities, I was a little off so as my philosophy is, there are never mistakes, just changes in plans! The "will you be my tweetheart?" in pop-dotted on both cards. Can I tell you have much I love these birds???
Now, onto the business of my beloved LSU Tigers. Tonight is the night!!! 7:00 pm. I have my list of food and snacks, I just have to go to the store and get everything. I can't wait to watch the game, are you tired of hearing about it yet? Well, after tomorrow, you won't have to hear about it for awhile, well, maybe :)

Sneak Peak from All That Scraps - CC Designs
Good afternoon! Here is my first sneak peek at the new CC Designs available on January 4th at www.allthatscraps.com. Isn't he soooo cute! I know pink doesn't really go with a boy lion, but I just loved the combo! I also know that I will be using this cute lion for Valentine's for my grandsons, I'll probably use blue or green with red hearts though :o) This set is called "Love Ya Lots", the other set is called "Love Ya Much" and they are both filled with the cutest images!! Be sure to go check them out! I got nestabilities for Christmas so of course I had to use them on this card. I think, okay, I know, I'm going to have so much fun with them!!! I'm cleaning today, but I'm also trying to get some stamping time in too so hopefully I will have more to share shortly! Thanks for looking and have a great afternoon.

Happy Winter from LuLu (and me too)
I did it!! I got two posts done in the same day! This is another one of the CC Designs images that you can find at www.allthatscraps.com. It's definitely one of my favorite ones for winter, I just LOVE LuLu's snow outfit and the little snowman. Tomorrow I will be sharing a card made with one of the newest sets that will be released on Jan. 4th. They are very, very cute!!!! I still love this one though and will probably be making some more winter cards to go along with the Valentine's Day ones. I tried something different on this card and found that I liked it alot! The top paper on the card is embossed with the cuttlebug snow folder and then I used the snowflake cuttlebug die to diecut some white bazzill bling snowflakes to add to the top. I liked the little bit of extra sparkle it gave the card. As usual there is glitter sparkling on my snowman, but you can't see it. I also used liquid applique on LuLu's snowsuit and glaze pen on LuLu's facial features and the snowman's facial features. Coloring was done with my prismacolor pencils and mineral spirits! Have a great evening and thanks for stopping by!
